Join us to interview Safiya Sinclair about "How to Say Babylon" - Shelf Interest Book Club's Book Focus for the month of November.
From 7-8pm Safiya Sinclair will be live with us on zoom answering our questions on her acclaimed memoir, with the opportunity for attendees to ask questions too! This is free for anyone to join!
From 8pm-9pm Shelf Interest Book Club Members wil gather to discuss their thoughts on the memoir for their monthly community review.
About the Author
Safiya Sinclair is an multi-award-winning poet and author born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. With a mother that had a love for teaching, and a father who ran the household under strict patriarchal and Rastafarian customs, Safiya Sinclair writes on her journey of understanding, questioning and choosing her own path in her memoir “How To Say Babylon”.
About the book
“How To Say Babylon” is a memoir documenting the upbringing of Safiya Sinclair under the uncompromising Rastafarian leadership of her father. With dashes of poetry, history and perspectives from various family members, this thoughtful and forgiving book reads as an expressive novel. Whilst navigating her purity and a patriarchal dictatorship, Sinclair shares her journey of self-discovery, reflection, education, heartache, and empowerment.
